Residency Applications and AOS

Comprehensive steps, and requirements to help you navigate your application smoothly. From detailed steps to expert support, we guide you through every stage of the application process

Determine Eligibility

The applicant must verify their eligibility to apply for Adjustment of Status (AOS) based on their current immigration status and visa category. Common categories include family-based petitions, employment-based petitions, or asylum/refugee status.

File Form I-485

The applicant files Form I-485, Application to Adjust Status, with U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS). This form is accompanied by required supporting documents, including proof of eligibility (e.g., I-130 or I-140 approval), identity documents, and evidence of lawful entry into the U.S.

Pay Filing Fees

The applicant pays the filing fee, which varies based on age and category. The fee includes the cost for biometrics processing. Fee waivers are available in certain circumstances.

Biometrics Appointment

USCIS schedules a biometrics appointment where the applicant provides fingerprints, a photograph, and a signature. This information is used for background checks with law enforcement agencies.

Attend AOS Interview

USCIS may require an in-person interview at a local field office. During the interview, an officer reviews the application, supporting documents, and asks questions to confirm eligibility. For family-based applications, evidence of a bona fide relationship may be required.
